The action comedy starring John Cena and Idris Elba that is breaking records on Prime Video

It's already the most-watched of the year on Amazon: Heads of State combines action, humor, and a star-studded cast

More than 75 million people have already watched it and it's shaping up to be one of the major streaming phenomena of 2025. With an explosive mix of humor, fights, and shootouts, Heads of State has become an unexpected hit.

Starring Idris Elba, John Cena, and Priyanka Chopra, this original film from Amazon Prime Video surprises with a simple yet effective formula. Well-filmed action, laid-back humor, and a fast pace make it irresistible.

What is Heads of State about?

The story follows two former agents at odds who must collaborate on an international mission. Although they can't stand each other, they're forced to work together to prevent a global disaster. The whole package: espionage, chases, gunfire, and explosions with comedic nods.

The plot doesn't aim to innovate, but it serves its purpose: to entertain without complications. It's an adrenaline-filled journey from start to finish, designed for binge-watching with popcorn in hand.

A cast that holds everything together

One of the film's great successes is the casting. John Cena and Idris Elba achieve explosive chemistry, while Priyanka Chopra and Jack Quaid provide a balance between charisma and humor. The director, Ilya Naishuller, makes the most of that potential.

Naishuller, known for his work on Nobody, applies his signature polished action and impactful sequences. The fight choreography and chase scenes rival those of a traditional film production.

An action comedy that doesn't take itself seriously

Part of its charm lies in laughing at itself. With exaggerated characters and absurd situations, Heads of State never tries to be more than it is: a light and effective spectacle.

The script has clichés, yes, but it also offers an ideal break for those seeking straightforward entertainment. It's a perfect film to switch off your mind and have a good time for two hours.

Is there a sequel?

The director has already confirmed his enthusiasm for a possible continuation. "I'd love to continue with Jack and Marty," Naishuller said in a recent interview. With such global success, Amazon Prime Video has every reason to bet on a second installment.

Even if Heads of State 2 doesn't materialize, the director has already stated that he wants to work with Jack Quaid again.
