'God of War' becomes a series: what the adaptation coming to Prime Video will be like
The adaptation of God of War for Prime Video will follow the Norse arc and will feature the game's director on its team
Prime Video is preparing its major bet in the gaming world with a series based on God of War. The story will begin with the acclaimed 2018 game and will feature a free adaptation that remains faithful to the original spirit.
The project is in the scriptwriting stage and won't begin filming until 2026. The participation of Cory Barlog, the game's director, as part of the creative team has already been confirmed.

A different approach
The God of War series won't be a frame-by-frame replica of the game. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore explained that they want to preserve the soul of the story, but with a creative interpretation.
The idea is to maintain the emotional journey of Kratos and Atreus, traveling through the nine realms while facing Norse gods and their own inner demons. All of this, without betraying the epic and introspective tone that made the game great.
Cory Barlog joins the team
The renowned creator of the game will be part of the series development, contributing his vision and ensuring consistency with the narrative universe. Moore described him as "a genius" and stated that his presence is key to maintaining the saga's identity.

Why choose the Norse arc?
The arc of God of War (2018) and Ragnarök (2022) marked a new stage for the franchise. They left behind Greek brutality to tell a more emotional, deep, and mature story.
This change was crucial for the leap to television. The cinematic tone and intimate narrative position this IP as ideal for a high-impact series.

Amazon makes a strong bet with an ambitious co-production
Amazon Studios, Sony Pictures Television, and PlayStation Productions are behind the project. They want to replicate the success of other adaptations like The Last of Us and Fallout.
Expectations are extremely high: God of War is one of the most awarded and recognized franchises in modern gaming. Its arrival on streaming could mark another milestone in this golden era of video game adaptations.
How many episodes will it have and when will it premiere?
Moore confirmed that the first season already has a defined structure. Although a premiere date hasn't been revealed yet, filming will only begin in 2026.

It is known that Amazon ordered two batches of episodes. However, the team is focused exclusively on building a solid first season before thinking about the future.
