The 'journalist' from Al Jazeera eliminated by Israel was a high-ranking Hamas commander
Anas al-Sharif organized and directed rocket attacks against Israeli civilian and military targets
In a precision strike carried out in the Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the elimination of Anas al-Sharif, a senior Hamas terrorist commander who operated undercover under the guise of a journalist for the pro-Hamas network Al Jazeera.
This strike, carried out in the vicinity of Shifa Hospital, made it possible to neutralize a key figure in the planning and execution of attacks against civilians and Israeli forces.
Al-Sharif, who was publicly presented as a journalist, was in fact an important terrorist commander of a squad from Hamas's elite Nukhba force, belonging to the East Jabalia battalion. His main function was to organize and direct attacks with rockets against civilian targets and Israeli military installations, putting the lives of innocents at serious risk, while promoting a pro-Hamas propaganda campaign from Al Jazeera.

Israeli intelligence gathered compelling evidence confirming his double role: while maintaining the appearance of a journalist, he also carried out active terrorist tasks. Among the documentation seized in previous operations are personnel lists, telephone directories, training records, and salary tables, where he is identified as an operational member since his recruitment in December 2013. In addition, it was confirmed that he received a monthly salary of 200 dollars, financed by Hamas to support his terrorist activities.
During a training session in 2017, Al-Sharif suffered injuries to his left eye and ear, but this did not stop his activity within the terrorist organization. Beyond his activity in the terrorist organization, a message of his was also circulated on social media celebrating the terrorist attack of October 7, 2023, when Hamas indiscriminately killed and kidnapped Israeli civilians, causing multiple victims and triggering the current conflict in Gaza.

The Israel Defense Forces denounced the fraudulent use of a journalistic identity to cover up terrorist activities, describing this maneuver as a serious violation of international law and a dangerous essentialization of the media for violent purposes. This infiltration within international media outlets such as Al Jazeera reflects Hamas's strategy to manipulate global public opinion while carrying out terrorist acts.
The elimination of Anas al-Sharif represents a significant blow to Hamas's operational capabilities in Gaza, reaffirming the State of Israel's commitment to defending its population and neutralizing terrorist threats.
