President Donald Trump stated that his administration is working on national legislation for the right to bear arms that could significantly expand freedoms related to the Second Amendment in the United States. The proposal, backed by conservative sectors, would allow citizens who meet legal requirements to carry firearms nationwide without needing to obtain additional permits according to each state's regulations.

During an event at the ''Mack Trucks'' facilities in Macungie, Pennsylvania, Trump acknowledged the presence of the president of the National Rifle Association (NRA), Bill Bachenberg, and highlighted the support the organization has given him since the beginning of his political career. The president stated that the NRA supported him because he defends the constitutional right of Americans to own and carry firearms.

In front of the attendees, Trump asked if they supported national legislation for carrying firearms and, after receiving a positive response, confirmed: ''We are working on it''. His statements were interpreted as a sign that the White House could formally support an initiative aimed at establishing more uniform rules for carrying firearms throughout the United States.

The announcement comes months after Republican Senator Mike Lee from Utah introduced the National Concealed Carry Act, a bill that seeks to eliminate the permit requirements for carrying concealed firearms for citizens who can legally possess them under federal law.

Lee argues that the founders of the United States established a national right to bear arms and that citizens should not have to rely on the approval of local officials to exercise a freedom protected by the Constitution. According to the senator, the existence of different state regulations creates an unequal system where a person can legally exercise their right in one state and face restrictions when crossing a state line.

Currently, 29 states allow some form of constitutional carry, a policy that permits carrying concealed firearms without prior licensing under certain conditions. However, the rules vary considerably between jurisdictions, creating a complex legal landscape for gun owners traveling between states.

The proposal pushed by Lee and supported by Trump-aligned sectors would establish that any American authorized to possess a firearm could carry it concealed in any state without applying for an additional permit. The bill would prohibit state and local governments from imposing licenses, fees, or criminal penalties on citizens who legally exercise this right.

Proponents of the initiative argue that a national law would strengthen individual freedoms and prevent local governments from limiting a constitutionally protected right. They also argue that uniform regulations would allow law-abiding citizens to avoid legal issues simply by moving from one state to another.

However, the proposal would not eliminate all restrictions. The bill would maintain the prohibition on carrying firearms for individuals already barred by federal law, such as certain individuals with backgrounds that legally prevent them from possessing weapons. Additionally, it would allow for limitations in places considered high-security and on private properties where owners choose to prohibit firearms.

Trump's potential support represents a significant boost for gun rights advocacy groups, which believe that the measure would reaffirm constitutional protection against regulations they consider excessive. Throughout his political career, the president has maintained a close relationship with the NRA and with conservative sectors that place the Second Amendment among their top priorities.

Supporters of the reform argue that allowing carry without permits could enhance the personal defense capability of authorized citizens and reduce bureaucratic barriers. They also point out that many states already implement similar models without, according to their argument, leading to a removal of control over who can legally access a firearm.
