Alberto Fernández shared a video to reaffirm that "Brazilians came out of the jungle"

The former Kirchnerist president Alberto Fernández once again referred to the controversy he was involved in back in 2021 regarding his statements about the origins of Mexicans, Brazilians, and Argentines.

This time, the Argentine leader used a post about a new electoral spot from the socialist dictator Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to reaffirm that "Brazilians came from the jungle."

Fernández shared on his X account a message posted by journalist Dante López Foresi, who had highlighted the content of Lula's campaign video, which seeks his reelection in Brazil on October 4.

The post established a parallel between the Brazilian president's speech and the statements made by Fernández during his presidency.

“Excellent electoral spot from Lula in Brazil. He says that when the Portuguese arrived, they found the jungle. Who was in the jungle? The Brazilians. What conclusion does he draw: 'Brazilians are jungle (Silva in Latin)'? Do you remember how they attacked @alferdez when he said almost the same thing?,” wrote López Foresi.

The former Argentine president directly responded to that post with a brief phrase that pointed to the controversy he faced years ago: “No more questions, Your Honor”, wrote Fernández.

The antecedent he referred to dates back to June 2021, when Fernández received the Spanish socialist president Pedro Sánchez at the Casa Rosada. During that meeting, the Argentine president made a statement about the origins of the peoples of Latin America that generated strong controversy, especially in Brazil and Mexico.

“Octavio Paz once wrote that Mexicans came from the Indians, Brazilians came from the jungle, but we Argentines arrived from the ships”, Fernández had stated.

However, that reference to the Mexican writer was incorrect. The formulation used by the then-president was more in line with a song by Argentine musician Litto Nebbia than with a phrase from Octavio Paz.

The statement generated significant controversy and was criticized by those who considered it contained a discriminatory and racist component.

In light of the repercussions of his words, particularly in Brazil, Fernández had to apologize. The controversy also resonated in Brazilian and Mexican media.

Now, Fernández has revisited that episode in light of Lula's spot, who is currently seeking a new mandate at the helm of Brazil.

In the Brazilian elections, the socialist dictator's main opponent is senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the Liberal Party candidate and son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, who is unjustly barred by Lula's regime.
