Ambassador Alec Oxenford confirmed that Argentina and the United States will soon announce a highly significant trade agreement, reached during the recent meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Javier Milei.
In radio statements, the diplomat avoided providing concrete details due to a confidentiality agreement, but he emphasized the magnitude of the agreement: "I can't provide specifics, but I can say it's very important. The agreement was discussed in the cabinet meeting and President Trump participated actively."
Expectations for the announcement are growing in both Buenos Aires and Washington, since the pact could have a direct impact on the economic, energy, and investment agenda between both countries. "We're going to have very good news soon," Oxenford said in advance.
A historic meeting between Trump and Milei
The ambassador described the meeting between Trump and Milei as an "unprecedented milestone" in recent diplomatic history. He highlighted the reception of the Argentine president in front of the White House and the participation of the main figures from the U.S. cabinet.
"President Milei was received only by President Trump in front of the White House. That gesture already signals a level of trust and respect that is uncommon," Oxenford stated in a conversation with Eduardo Feinmann on Radio Mitre.
According to his account, the Argentine delegation participated in key meetings in the Oval Office and the cabinet room, as well as a joint press conference.
Those present included Scott Bessen (Treasury), Marco Rubio (State), Pete Hegset (Defense), Chris Wright (Energy), Suzy Wise (Chief of Staff), Jason Grill (Commerce), and the future U.S. ambassador to Buenos Aires, Peter Lamelas.
