Alejandro Domínguezwill remain at the helm of the South American Football Confederation. This Thursday, during the 81st Congress held in Luque, Paraguay, he was unanimously reelected as president of CONMEBOL and will begin a new term in 2027, which will extend until 2031.
Domínguez seguirá como presidente hasta 2031
Domínguez assumed leadership of the organization on January 26, 2016, following the FIFA-Gate scandal that led to Juan Ángel Napout's departure. He initially completed the term until 2018, and after the statute reform, he was elected for the first time to a full term between 2019 and 2023. His second reelection came in April 2022, during a congress held in Doha, months before the World Cup in Qatar, securing his continuity until 2027.
In this new chapter of his administration, Ignacio Alonso, president of AUF, formally proposed his reelection and highlighted the achievements of the current administration.

Domínguez's objectives
Among the challenges Domínguez will face in his fourth term are two key priorities: advancing the recovery of funds lost to corruption in the context of FIFA-Gate and consolidating institutional transparency.
Additionally, he seeks to strengthen the bid of Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay to host the centennial World Cup celebration in 2030, sharing the event with Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

With an increasingly influential role in FIFA and with strategic alliances with UEFA and CONCACAF, the Paraguayan official will also aim to deepen ties with other confederations, such as Africa, Asia, and Oceania.
The new CONMEBOL Executive Committee for the 2027-2031 period will be determined once the term begins, since several presidents of the member federations will have internal elections that could change the composition of the governing body.
