Álvarez asked UBA to guarantee security after attacks on libertarian activists
The official sent a note to the rector of the University of Buenos Aires, Ricardo Gelpi, demanding urgent measures to stop political violence at the Faculty of Law
The Undersecretary of University Policies, Alejandro Álvarez, sent an official statement to the rector of the University of Buenos Aires, Ricardo Jorge Gelpi, following the violent incidents recorded at the Faculty of Law. According to the document, a group of agitated students attacked, insulted, and prevented the activities of young people identified with libertarian political positions, which caused strong condemnation.
In the letter, dated August 28, 2025, Álvarez warned that constitutional rights and Laws 24.521 and 23.592, which protect equality and non-discrimination in the university environment, had been violated.

"You are the person responsible for ensuring security that allows coexistence, plurality, and the proper use of the University's facilities", stated the official in his message to the rector.
Urgent measures demanded from UBA

The undersecretary urged the authorities to guarantee the physical safety of all students and to sanction violent behavior that undermines freedom of expression. He also indicated that the Undersecretariat of University Policies will support all measures taken by UBA to restore institutional order and ensure a democratic climate in the classrooms.
"Action must be taken as quickly as possible to prevent delay or negligence from worsening the situation," Álvarez emphasized, who stressed that intolerance and violence can't have a place in academic life.

The complaint adds to the demands of libertarian student groups who had warned about ideological persecution at the Faculty of Law. The case opens a debate about the responsibility of university authorities in protecting political plurality in the academic environment.
