Argentina: IDB approves financing plan for USD 10 billion
The multilateral organization will support the Argentine government's economic program
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) approved a new financing strategy for Argentina for USD 10,000 million until 2028, with an initial disbursement of USD 3,000 million during 2025.
The package represents support for the economic plan of President Javier Milei, although the organization warned about significant challenges such as the limited legislative support to advance reforms.
The document approved by the IDB board establishes a shared roadmap with the Argentine government focused on three pillars: fiscal reforms and strengthening of the tax system, economic openness to attract private investment, and social programs aimed at reducing poverty.
What the IDB says about Argentina
"The Country Strategy 2025-2028 reflects our long-term commitment to Argentina," stated Viviana Alva-Hart, IDB representative in the country.
From the Ministry of Economy, the Secretary of Finance, Pablo Quirno, welcomed the approval as "clear support for the government's priorities: fiscal balance, economic openness, and institutional strengthening."

IDB warnings
The IDB identified several short- and medium-term risks for the Argentine economic program. Among them: the shortage of international reserves and the difficulty of passing laws in Congress.
Additionally, the organization committed to assisting the country in improving its tax efficiency and reducing dependence on distortionary taxes.
