Argentina is the country with the second lowest cost of living in the region
On the opposite end are Uruguay, Mexico, and Chile
According to a joint survey by international statistical portals Numbeo and Statista, Argentina ranks as the second country with the lowest cost of living in South America in 2024, surpassed only by Paraguay. This data represents a remarkable shift compared to the recent past, which was marked by years of high inflation and economic distortions.
The study shows that the minimum monthly cost of living in Argentina was just 434.9 euros, below countries such as Bolivia (444.5 €), Peru (457.9 €), and Colombia (487.7 €). At the opposite end are Uruguay (820.1 €), Mexico (652 €), and Chile (650 €), as the nations with the highest cost of living in the region.
This position is closely related to the macroeconomic stabilization plan promoted by president Javier Milei, who, since taking office in December 2023, has implemented a solid program of fiscal adjustment, price liberalization, and economic openness.

These measures have significantly reduced inflation, stabilized the currency, increased real wages, and substantially lowered poverty, factors that today translate into a lower cost of living in international comparative terms.
This data also reflects greater relative purchasing power for those who earn foreign currency, consolidating Argentina as an increasingly attractive destination for tourists.
This new place in the regional ranking is not only evidence of the change in economic direction, but also a sign that the successful stabilization policies are already producing results.
