A couple of police officers were assaulted but managed to defend themselves and neutralize a thief.

A pair of police officers was heading to work in their Volkswagen Gol when they were intercepted by violent criminals who attempted to rob them in Sarandí.

The assailants displayed an object resembling a firearm and demanded they get out of the vehicle, but the officers reacted and opened fire: one of the female robbers died and her accomplice was seriously injured.

The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. this Thursday at the intersection of Pythagoras and Mansilla, a few meters from Racing's Tita Mattiussi grounds, where the club's youth categories train.

In the car were a 26-year-old officer from the Bonaerense Police and a 28-year-old member of the City Police. They were both on their way to work when a pair of criminals approached them with intent to rob. Due to the low visibility in the area, they couldn't distinguish that the weapon used by the criminals was actually a power drill.

The officers fired and, as a result, Tamara Abigail González, a violent 29-year-old robber, was shot dead at the scene. It was later revealed that she had a criminal record for theft.

Her accomplice, identified as Rubén Ezequiel Sánchez, 33 years old, received gunshot wounds to the abdomen and an arm, so he was urgently taken to a nearby hospital, where he underwent a surgical procedure.

Last January, González had already been arrested for participating in the theft of a cell phone from a teenager, along with a man, at the intersection of Anatole France and Arredondo, a few meters from Perón Hospital.

After the attempted robbery, the criminals fled to the Villa Argentina neighborhood, although they were intercepted by officers from the 6th precinct of Avellaneda, who managed to arrest the woman. However, a few hours later, she was released.

The two investigations are being handled by UFI No. 3 of Avellaneda. In the most recent case, no action was taken against the police officers, as it was considered they acted in self-defense.
