What did Chris Claremont reveal about Avengers and the X-Men?

Claremont hinted that he has inside information, possibly due to his connection with the comics that now inspire the MCU. As happened with Jim Starlin and Thanos, his closeness to the original material seems to give him access to privileged information.

Robert Downey Jr. will play multiple characters

According to Claremont, Robert Downey Jr. will return as Doctor Doom but will also play three other characters. Among them will be an evil version of Iron Man, although the roles aren't entirely clear.

"We've got RDJ playing the villain, Iron Man... and two more," the writer said to a stunned audience.

Chris Evans will also have several versions

Claremont stated that Chris Evans will portray different versions of Captain America. Among them, he mentioned Captain Hydra or "Lord Hydra," an evil version of the character.

"It's as if they're directly putting the original Avengers to play everyone, even the villains and sidekicks," he joked.

Scarlet Witch returns to the MCU

Elizabeth Olsen, who denied her participation for months, will be back. Claremont mentions her as part of the cast, playing a good Scarlet Witch.

He also left open the possibility that Vision will return in this new phase.

Famke Janssen returns as Phoenix

Claremont confirmed that Famke Janssen returns to the role of Jean Grey as Phoenix. He said that "they didn't know if she was coming back, but now it's confirmed."

Everything suggests that they will adapt the Phoenix saga, one of the writer's most recognized stories.

Psylocke will also be included

The character Psylocke will appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. Claremont clarified that she will no longer be played by an Asian actress, although she will keep the same comic book look.

Wolverine would kill an important character

Claremont shared a rumor: Wolverine would kill someone important in the Marvel universe. He didn't give names, but suggested it could be a move to boost the debut of the X-Men in the MCU.

"Why wait three years for the X-Men?" he asked. "Make this the first mutant movie!"

The Fantastic Four already exist in the MCU

Claremont confirmed that the Fantastic Four are already established in the Marvel universe. The official story will say they've been active for four years when they cross paths with Galactus.

He also joked about the villain's size: "Shouldn't he be taller? In the comics, he looks like Godzilla."

More than 40 characters on screen

The writer highlighted the magnitude of the cast. He said there will be between 20 and 40 main characters among heroes and villains.
