The Chubut justice system decided to order 20 days of pretrial detention for a man accused of having intentionally started a fire in grasslands in the city of Comodoro Rivadavia. The measure was ordered while the judicial investigation of the incident moves forward.
The defendant was identified as Juan Ignacio Muñoz, 34 years old, originally from the province of Tucumán, who was placed in a police facility after the judicial decision.
The incident occurred along National Route 3
The fire source was recorded along National Route No. 3, where motorists driving through the area noticed the presence of the fire and immediately alerted the Chubut Police.
The witnesses provided information about the suspect's physical appearance and clothing, which allowed the officers to begin a search operation in the area.
Arrest after being identified by the injuries
The arrest took place at kilometer 110, when the officers detected a man who matched the description provided by the passersby. According to local media, the suspect was walking with difficulty due to a burn on one leg, which reinforced the suspicions against him.
After his apprehension, he was transferred to be placed at the disposal of the justice system.

The Prosecutor's Office requested 20 days of pretrial detention, a request that was endorsed by criminal judge Horacio Yanguela. As a result, Muñoz was placed in the Second Police Station of Puerto Madryn while the judicial proceedings continue.
The head of the Puerto Madryn Regional Unit, Diego Williams, clarified that the arrest is exclusively related to this incident and that the accused isn't linked to other fires recorded in the province.
