Ballon d'Or 2025: all the nominees, the award ceremony date, and the prizes
France Football magazine has revealed the candidates for the most prestigious award in world football. The ceremony will take place on September 22 at the Theatre du Chatelet
This Thursday, August 7, just over a month before the Ballon d'Or is awarded, the nominees for the world's most important individual trophy were announced. As always, there were expected names and others that surprised.
The heir to Rodri Hernández, winner of the 2024 edition, will not be revealed until September 22. Therefore, there will be almost seven weeks of pure speculation about who will win this year's Ballon d'Or, in an edition that is expected to be more open than usual.
It should be noted that the BdO is awarded to the player who had the best season, not the best calendar year. That is, the period from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2025.
In this edition, Argentina will have three representatives among the various individual awards. Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool) and Lautaro Martínez (Inter Milan) are nominated for the men's Ballon d'Or, while Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez (Aston Villa) appears among the candidates for the Yashin Trophy, which recognizes the best goalkeeper of the year.
