Boca is going to court to recover the 2.5 million it gave Talleres for Pavón.

The multi-million dollar transfer abroad never materialized, and Xeneize is awaiting a favorable ruling after years of legal dispute

Ten years later, Boca is seeking to recover 2.5 million dollars that it advanced to Talleres de Córdoba for the supposed transfer of Cristian Pavón abroad, a deal that ultimately never materialized.

The story dates back to mid-2018, when Xeneize was expecting to sell Pavón after the World Cup in Russia and the  Copa Libertadores. His release clause reached 37.5 million dollars, and Daniel Angelici's management projected revenues of up to 50 million for the forward's transfer. Talleres, which held a capital gain from a future sale, then received about 3 million dollars as an advance on the 10% it was entitled to.

But the major transfer never happened: Pavón remained at Boca, then went on loan to MLS (Los Angeles Galaxy), and finally left the club as a free agent in 2022 to Atlético Mineiro, without generating a single cent from an international sale.

Moments before the forward's departure, Raúl Cascini, a member of the Football Council, had spoken about the situation: "If Pavón leaves as a free agent, then some arrangement will have to be made with Talleres. A percentage of a future sale was paid to them. Talleres should owe us money. They were given money and that is handled by the club's legal department".

In this context, from the Córdoba club, Andrés Fassi had stated years ago that "that money advanced was part of a negotiation involving four other players" and that the matter "was settled". However, according to club sources, Boca's legal department took the dispute to court, and the case went to judgment.

Xeneize is awaiting a favorable ruling to recover those USD 2.5 million and finally close one of the most unusual stories of recent transfer windows:  a multimillion-dollar sale that never happened, but still caused years of dispute and a lawsuit between two of the country's most important clubs.

Meanwhile, the protagonist of this saga, Cristian Pavón, now at Grêmio and with a contract until December 2026, is being considered as a possible reinforcement for Racing, which is seeking him to replace Maximiliano Salas ahead of the Copa Libertadores.
