Bombshell: After more than two and a half years, visiting fans are returning to CABA

AFA confirmed that the match between Excursionistas and Argentinos Juniors for the Copa Argentina will have the presence of both fan bases

The president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio Chiqui Tapia, announced on Monday that visiting fans will be allowed to attend again. The match between Excursionistas and Argentinos Juniors for the round of 32 of the Copa Argentina at the Nuevo Gasometro will serve as the pilot test for this measure.

The press conference where this decision was announced included the participation of the presidents of both clubs, Javier Méndez Cartier from Villero, and Cristian Malaspina from Bicho. Representatives of the Buenos Aires security agencies and the president of Torneos, Gustavo Isaack, were also present.

The person in charge of opening the conference was the head of Argentine football, who emphasized that "today is an important day for Argentine football and Copa Argentina."

"After November 2022, having a pilot test with both sets of fans again makes us truly happy. Recovering the City of Buenos Aires as a venue is extremely important," he added, and also stated: "Thank you to everyone for making the City the venue for Copa Argentina."

Later, from the Ministry of Security they indicated: "We analyzed it from the security forces, we thought it was a good idea and we took it to Jorge Macri, who gave us the green light for the pilot test. We will seek to continue making progress."

"It's the same team that worked on the Copa Libertadores final, we want to keep moving forward," they emphasized.

Meanwhile, Gustavo Isaack celebrated the decision, stating that "we were missing the City of Buenos Aires, we pursued it and today we see it materialized."

The opinion of the directors of both clubs

Cristian Malaspina, president of Argentinos Juniors, expressed satisfaction with the measure and called for responsibility: "We are experiencing this event with great joy. I believe that after the pandemic, people are attending matches more, there are more members, and we listen to the membership base. We want to give them the opportunity to attend all stadiums, now it depends on our behavior."

He concluded: "There are no stadiums in Capital Federal with fences, that sets the standard. This Wednesday everything will go well so we can keep moving forward."

On the side of Excursionistas, its president Javier Méndez Cartier stated: "Reaching this stage today is no coincidence. We have the support of the various security agencies. Clubs in the 3rd and 4th divisions have various mechanisms."

He concluded by saying: "We know we are responsible for making this work, and I hope we are the first to open this path."
