River is one step away from making the most important move of the transfer market. The club has reached a verbal agreement with Atlético de Madrid to acquire Thiago Almada, in a deal that will be around 20 million dollars for 50% of the economic rights of the player and will become the most expensive purchase not only in its history but also in all of Argentine football, surpassing its own record of Kevin Castaño to Krasnodar last year (16 million dollars).

Only the signing of the documents and the medical examination are left for the attacking midfielder to be officially linked to the Millonario. The contract will be for three and a half years, until December 2030, and the player will interrupt his vacation to travel to Buenos Aires and complete the final procedures.

The negotiation went through different stages over the past few weeks. When it seemed to be on track, the emergence of Flamengo complicated the situation and cast doubt on the outcome. However, the persistence of the management led by Stefano Di Carlo proved to be decisive, and Almada chose to return to Argentine football to join Eduardo Coudet's team.

In this way, at 25 years old, the world champion with the Argentine National Team in Qatar 2022 will return to the country after his stint in European football. After standing out at Vélez, Atlanta United, Botafogo, and Olympique de Lyon, he landed at Atlético de Madrid, where he did not manage to establish himself, prompting him to seek an exit for greater continuity.

His arrival will represent River's ninth reinforcement in this transfer market and will strengthen a squad that has already added Nicolás Otamendi, Ángel Correa, Rafael Santos Borré, Lucas Beltrán, Mauro Arambarri, Giovanni González, Francisco Ortega, and Tobías Andrada.

Since his arrival in mid-2025, the native of Ciudadela has played 1,704 minutes, spread over 40 matches, in which he scored 4 goals, provided 2 assists, and received 4 yellow cards and one direct red card.
