River is one step away from making the most important move of the transfer market. The club has reached a verbal agreement with Atlético de Madrid to acquire Thiago Almada, in a deal that will be around 20 million euros for 100% of the economic rights of the player and will become the most expensive purchase not only in its history but also in all of Argentine football, surpassing its own record of Kevin Castaño to Krasnodar last year (16 million dollars).
Only the signing of the documents and the medical examination are left for the attacking midfielder to be officially linked to the Millonario. The contract will be for three and a half years, until December 2030, with a buyback clause for the Colchonero of 40 million euros valid for 18 months (early 2028).
The negotiation went through different stages over the past few weeks. When it seemed to be on track, the emergence of Flamengo complicated the situation and cast doubt on the outcome. However, the persistence of the management led by Stefano Di Carlo proved to be decisive, and Almada chose to return to Argentine football to join Eduardo Coudet's team.
