After several weeks of uncertainty, the future of Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez has finally been defined. The goalkeeper of the Argentine National Team will leave Aston Villa to become the new player of Chelsea, in a move that will allow him to continue in the Premier League and, at the same time, return to being part of one of the great clubs in England.

The agreement was closed for an amount close to 7.5 million pounds sterling (just over 10 million dollars). The Argentine will now sign a contract for two seasons, until mid-2028, with the possibility of extending it for one more year.

The arrival of the 33-year-old from Mar del Plata responds to a specific search by Chelsea, which had been analyzing the incorporation of an experienced goalkeeper due to the doubts raised by the performance of Spanish Robert Sánchez. In that context, Martínez's name gained traction and ended up becoming the option chosen by the Blues' management.

His departure had been in the works for some time, with Manchester United and then Juventus as the main interested parties, although neither managed to reach an agreement with the Villains. This time, the London club approached the demands of the Birmingham club and, combined with the goalkeeper's own desire for a change of scenery and the recent signing of Japanese Zion Suzuki, the operation was unlocked.

Now at Stamford Bridge, Martínez will share the squad with Argentine players Aarón Anselmino and Valentín Barco and, unless Manchester City completes another operation in this transfer window, also with Enzo Fernández.
