The teacher had challenged Muslim students who were using the school's restrooms to wash their feet
A primary school teacher in the United Kingdom was suspended, dismissed, and even investigated by the police after telling a group of Muslim students that the country keeps a historic Christian tradition and that the King remains the head of the Church of England.
The episode originated during a routine situation within the educational institution. According to the teacher's own account, several students were using the school's sinks to wash their feet before prayer, a common practice in Islam.
In response to this situation, the teacher intervened to explain that such use was not allowed and that the school was secular. In that context, he also pointed out that if families were seeking an environment with a specific religious orientation, there was "an Islamic school just one kilometer (0.62 miles) away." As part of his explanation, he mentioned a widely known historical fact: the United Kingdom remains a Christian country.

The comment triggered an unexpected reaction. The Muslim students reported feeling "scared," which prompted the institution to take action against the teacher.
In March 2024, the teacher was removed from his duties and subsequently dismissed. The case was referred to both the child protection board and the Metropolitan Police, which opened an investigation for an alleged "hate crime." However, the case was closed as no evidence was found to constitute a criminal offense.
Despite the police decision, local educational authorities decided to continue with the administrative process. According to British media, they accused the teacher of causing "emotional harm" to the students, even though there was no evidence of abuse or inappropriate conduct. The evaluation was left in the hands of a child protection panel composed of nine adults, including a police detective and two social workers.

Ultimately, that panel confirmed the complaint, which resulted in a harsh and unfair sanction, and the teacher was disqualified from working with children. The resolution means that he will not be able to work again in educational settings or in any space involving professional contact with minors.
The case caused strong criticism regarding the increasing intervention of the State in situations where there is no evidence of actual harm, the judicial prosecution of stating historical truths and expressing oneself freely, as well as the exaggeration of the concept of "hate crime."
