Sergio "Chiquito" Romero already has a new destination in Argentine football. The 38-year-old goalkeeper, separated from the professional squad of Boca since his conflict with fans after the defeat in the 2024 Superclásico, has agreed to join Argentinos Juniors, which was looking for an emergency replacement after the serious injury to Diego "Ruso" Rodríguez.
The Bicho's management had formally requested the injury replacement slot and had already received approval from the Xeneize Football Council to move forward with the negotiation. Only Romero's own approval was pending to finalize the transfer, which ultimately happened.

After a positive meeting between the club and the player, the former Manchester United goalkeeper finally agreed to leave Boca, terminating his contract, and will sign a short-term contract until the end of the year. Despite his recent inactivity and physical history, his stature and experience in penalty shootouts make him an attractive option for the final stretch of the year.
