Christopher Nolan revolutionizes cinema with La Odisea: it will be filmed with IMAX cameras
Nolan will film The Odyssey 100% in IMAX and is pushing a technical revolution that will change cinema from the ground up
Christopher Nolan returns to shake up Hollywood with a move that aims high. His new film, The Odyssey, not only promises to be a narrative milestone but also a technical one.
In partnership with IMAX, the British director is driving an evolution that could forever change how major blockbusters are filmed and projected.

Why does The Odyssey mark a turning point in the industry?
According to an IMAX executive revealed to The Hollywood Reporter, it was Nolan himself who requested that the film be made 100% in IMAX format. But to achieve this, the entire production system had to be rethought.
"Chris called me and said that if we solved the technical issues, he would make The Odyssey completely in IMAX. And that's what we're doing," he said. This pushed the company to redesign everything from cameras to workflows.
A new generation of IMAX cameras
The technological change was significant. IMAX developed a new camera that reduces noise by 30%, weighs much less, and allows for better processing of 70 mm negatives.

This eliminates scanning errors and simplifies post-production work. For now, the cameras are reserved exclusively for Nolan, but they will be released to other filmmakers when filming is completed.
An unprecedented visual experience
Specialists working on set describe The Odyssey as "the epic of all epics." A phrase that, when it comes to Nolan, doesn't sound exaggerated.

The director not only aims to tell a great story. His goal is to redefine the cinematic experience on the big screen, from the technical to the emotional.
IMAX: synonymous with prestige, box office, and audience loyalty
The use of the IMAX format has become a mark of quality. Proof of this is that Oppenheimer grossed 190 million dollars solely in IMAX theaters.
Other recent titles like The Sinners, Mission Impossible 8, and F1 also bet on this system to capitalize on its visual and commercial potential.

Universal already has a release date for The Odyssey: July 17, 2026. Everything indicates that the director will once again leave an indelible mark on the history of cinema.
