The disastrous president of the AFA, Claudio Tapia, once again referred to the controversy surrounding the Argentine National Team after the World Cup final against Spain. A month after the decisive match, the president of the AFA harshly criticized those who spread the version that the team had given up and demanded that those responsible for those accusations apologize.

The investigated leader described those versions as a “lie,” an “operation,” and a “miserable campaign” aimed at putting the Argentine team under suspicion.

Tapia demanded apologies for the accusations against the National Team

In his post, the dismissive head of the AFA began by recalling the time that has passed since the final: “A month has passed. A month since that final. A month of lies, of operations, and of a miserable campaign to install that this National Team had given up.”

Tapia particularly questioned that none of those who spread that version have publicly acknowledged their mistake.

“And the most striking thing is that, after a month, none have apologized. None have come out to say: ‘We were wrong’,” he stated.

For the president of the AFA, a mistake can be understandable, but maintaining an accusation when the facts do not support it is not. In that sense, he argued that one cannot instill suspicion for days and then let it disappear without assuming responsibility.

The leader also defended the footballers and the coaching staff, whom he considered victims of a campaign aimed at damaging the image of the team.

“While our players gave their all on the field, some outside did exactly the opposite: they sowed hatred, division, defamation, and sought to destroy the image of a National Team that earned the respect of millions,” he expressed.

Tapia was even more forceful when referring to those who accused the team members of being traitors.

“Once you label the players of the National Team as traitors, there's no going back,” he asserted, before emphasizing that one cannot put under suspicion those who defended the Argentine jersey in the final.
