The national government led an interdisciplinary working group with ecclesiastical authorities to coordinate the arrival of Pope Leo XIV in Argentina, scheduled for the period between November 8 and 11. The organization selected the FADEA site in the city of Córdoba as the main site to hold the mass ceremony planned in the province. The preliminary itinerary of the Supreme Pontiff also includes official movements and religious meetings in the City of Buenos Aires and the province of Buenos Aires.

The organizational meeting was led by the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, along with ministers from the national Cabinet and representatives from the Government of the City of Buenos Aires. The official representation from the Vatican included the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio in Argentina, Monsignor Michael Wallace Banach, and the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge García Cuerva. In this meeting, the axes of dissemination, security, transportation, and logistics were established to ensure the regular development of papal activities.

The Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge García Cuerva, explained the characteristics of the joint work initiated between government bodies and the authorities of the Catholic Church. In this regard, the prelate stated: “It was a call made by the national government, which was to gather those who were here, the spirit is to work absolutely together.” Furthermore, the ecclesiastical representative indicated that the coordination meetings will immediately expand to the provincial administrations involved in the visits.

Selected Scenarios and Evaluation of Holiday

The planning of activities in the province of Buenos Aires includes an event at the Basilica of Luján, while in the City of Buenos Aires, the Monument to the Spaniards is being considered. To facilitate the movement of the faithful to the mass events, national authorities are studying the implementation of a holiday or day off. Regarding this measure, García Cuerva stated: “The national government said they were evaluating the possibility of having a holiday or day off to ensure the mobilization of everyone.”

The organizational schedule sets the next working instance for August 30, when a delegation from the Holy See will tour the proposed facilities. The papal delegation will consist of more than 80 international journalists who will directly cover each of the planned movements during the four days of stay. As for accommodations, the Holy Father will stay at the Apostolic Nunciature, while his collaborators will be located in a nearby hotel.

The FADEA aeronautical establishment, in Córdoba Capital, repeats its status as the chosen venue for the concentration of the faithful, reiterating the arrangement of the previous papal visit. The joint coordination between provincial governments and the national Cabinet aims to structure the traffic prevention and public safety operations. With the confirmation of the tentative agenda, technical teams are advancing in defining the transportation protocols for the official delegation and visiting public.
