Congress approved María Paz Bertero, an ultra-Kirchnerist and pro-abortion advocate, as Defender of Children's Rights

In a session filled with tension, the opposition managed to appoint María Paz Bertero as the new Defender of the Rights of Girls, Boys, and Adolescents, with 156 affirmative votes. The appointment was supported by Kirchnerism and opposition blocs, while La Libertad Avanza firmly opposed it, denouncing the "ideological colonization of state agencies" by left-wing activists.
Bertero, a lawyer who graduated from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata and is "specialized in gender issues," is a figure close to the infamous Buenos Aires governor Axel Kicillof and a fervent advocate for the legalization of abortion and "trans childhood" policies. Her appointment was decided by the Permanent Bicameral Commission for the Defender of the Rights of Girls, Boys, and Adolescents, after five consecutive votes and intense clashes between libertarian ruling party deputies and progressive sectors.

The Defender's Office had been headless since May, when LLA, PRO, and part of UCR decided to annul the extension of the mandate of Marisa Graham and Facundo Hernández, figures from Kirchnerism. However, the replacement ended up being promoted by the same ideological sector that had controlled the agency during the government of the woman-beater, Alberto Fernández.
Libertarian ruling party members quickly expressed their rejection. Deputy Beltrán Benedit warned that "the 2030 Agenda extends a new tentacle in our country" and described the appointment as "a danger to childhood". On his X account, he denounced that Bertero "was chosen in an irregular competition and represents the gender ideology that has caused so much harm in classrooms and in the Argentine family".

As an example of this ideological advance, a few days ago political scientist Agustín Laje denounced the holding of the First Global Meeting "Trans Childhoods" in Tucumán, an event financed with public funds and supported by the provincial legislature. According to Laje, the meeting "seeks to legitimize the hormonalization and sexual mutilation of children under the guise of inclusion".
The candidate of La Libertad Avanza in Tucumán, Federico Pelli, joined the repudiation and stated that "the most expensive legislature in the country prefers to finance ideological indoctrination rather than solve poverty and insecurity". The complaint was supported by legislators Ricardo Bussi and Eduardo Verón Guerra, who warned about the "lack of transparency and distorted priorities" of the legislative body.
