A congresswoman seeks to sanction gender change treatments in minors
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican, introduced the bill that will be debated next Tuesday
Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced a bill aimed at sanctioning those who carry out gender change treatments on minors.
"Left-wing activists and medical institutions are attacking American children with dangerous drugs, disfiguring surgeries, and permanent sterilization", Greene stated in a press release, adding: "My bill stops child mutilation and holds accountable those who perform or facilitate these atrocious procedures".
The initiative, called the "Protect Children’s Innocence Act of 2025", includes sanctions for those who practice chemical castration on minors, or perform, or attempt to perform, "genital or physical mutilations" on minors in contexts related to "interstate or international commerce", or when conducted "within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States, or any territory or possession of the United States".

The bill establishes that chemical castration encompasses both the use of hormone blockers to halt puberty and the administration of elevated levels of testosterone or estrogen above normal.
Regarding the sanctions contemplated by the Protect Children’s Innocence Act of 2025 for those who violate the norm, there is a financial fine, up to ten years in prison, or both penalties.
The initiative provides certain exceptions in specific cases, such as when the procedure is necessary to preserve the minor's health. However, it clarifies that this exception doesn't apply to mental health disorders.

The measure will be debated next Tuesday in the House Judiciary Committee. According to Greene's press release, the proposal has the support of dozens of Republican lawmakers in the House.
Earlier this year, President Donald Trump issued an order to strengthen the protection of minors against radical interventions linked to gender ideology.
This order establishes as national policy that the United States must not fund, support, promote, or facilitate so-called “gender transitions” in children, and commits to strictly enforcing all existing laws that restrict or prohibit this type of permanent and harmful interventions.
