CONMEBOL officially spoke out after FIFA decided to withdraw the FIFA Forward Enterprise project, the initiative that proposed incorporating private investment into a portion of the commercial revenues from the 2030 World Cup and which generated strong criticism within international football.

Through a statement, the Council of the South American Confederation expressed its support for the decision made by the entity led by Gianni Infantino and left a message in defense of institutional governance mechanisms.

CONMEBOL celebrated FIFA's reversal

The South American body highlighted FIFA's resolution not to proceed with the project and emphasized the importance of preserving consensus spaces among associations and confederations.

"The Council of CONMEBOL, meeting on this date, celebrates FIFA's decision to withdraw the FIFA FORWARD ENTERPRISE proposal," the statement noted.

Criticism of unilateral decisions

Beyond supporting the suspension of the initiative, CONMEBOL unanimously expressed its concern about the way the project was promoted.

In this regard, it warned about the "repeated unilateral actions" taken without prior dialogue or the established institutional mechanisms to discuss such decisions within world football.

In the final part of the statement, the Confederation made its position clear regarding future projects promoted by FIFA.

"CONMEBOL will not support any action or procedure that disregards institutional mechanisms and calls for preserving the unity of the football family, acting with institutional responsibility, strengthening dialogue, and fully respecting governance mechanisms," concluded the organization.
