Córdoba is making progress in wine production and receiving international awards
Walter Sinay, from Achala Bodega Exótica, promotes Cordoban wine with quality, awards, and educational projects
Córdoba's wine industry is beginning to position itself as an economic and cultural activity with great potential for the province. Walter Sinay, creator of Achala Bodega Exótica, highlights the importance of growth in both productivity and the cultural value of wine. His goal is to consolidate an industry capable of generating employment, tourism, and international recognition for Córdoba.
Walter's project began by transforming an abandoned field in Traslasierra into a high-end vineyard. He acquired the property in 2003 and, after restoring the land, began a process of research and experimentation. He received advice from expert Pedro Parra to identify optimal soils and plant Malbec, Syrah, and Sauvignon Blanc.
Achala stands out for planting directly on rock, using a method that requires significant manual effort. "Each of the 30,000 or 60,000 plants that exist today was planted with an iron bar into the stone, adding a bit of black soil so they could survive." This work has made it possible to obtain wines recognized in high-level competitions.

Awards and projects for the sector's growth
In London, Achala won the first gold medal for a Córdoba wine abroad, and this year achieved the second one. Its Malbec was chosen as the best in the competition, which led to new development proposals. Among them, the Higher Technical Degree in Oenology and Viticulture to be offered by the Provincial University of Córdoba starting in March stands out.
Currently, Córdoba has about 60 producers and 330 hectares (815 acres) of vineyards among wineries and craft-made producers. Walter emphasizes that Córdoba wine has its own identity and doesn't seek to imitate other regions. He asserts that, with patience and planning, the activity is profitable and has growth potential.
With dedication and a clear strategy, Córdoba is strengthening its place on the Argentine wine map. The progress achieved shows that the province can compete with quality in both the national and international markets. The work of producers like Sinay sets a path for the sustained development of the sector in the province.
