The Province of Córdoba is carrying out an investment of $544 million aimed at optimizing the waste treatment system in Calamuchita. The project includes structural improvements, acquisition of machinery, and refurbishment of the already operational regional plant. The main objective is to ensure proper final disposal for the waste caused by more than 100,000 inhabitants of the department.
The project, implemented through the Ministry of Environment and Circular Economy, seeks to strengthen transportation logistics from small towns. The addition of a backhoe loader and three roll-off containers will increase efficiency in collection and transportation. In addition, a new final disposal pit is being built to expand the site's operational capacity.
Currently, the plant receives around 100 tons of waste per day, a volume that doubles during the tourist season. The actions include technical assistance to municipalities and complementary works to optimize the separation of recyclable materials. With these improvements, the aim is to reduce environmental impact and strengthen regional cooperation.

Investment stages and incorporated equipment
In the first stage, the Provincial Environmental Fund allocated $83.4 million to La Cruz, Calmayo, and the Calamuchita Regional Community. The funds were used to acquire wood chippers and improve the complex's infrastructure. In a second phase, $456.85 million were allocated to Santa Rosa de Calamuchita, Villa Yacanto, Villa Quillinzo, and Villa Ciudad Parque.
These towns received additional equipment, such as open containers and storage sheds, which facilitate the management of urban solid waste. The new system will optimize time, reduce transportation, and improve working conditions for the personnel in charge. In addition, the transportation network was reinforced and permanent technical controls were established.
Ministry teams conduct periodic inspections to verify the site's operation and compliance with environmental regulations. Among the recommendations are the installation of windbreaks and the expansion of the separation area. With this project, Calamuchita is on track to consolidate a regional model of sustainable and efficient management.
