Cordoban Mateo Espejo was crowned BMX world champion at the championship held in Copenhagen, Denmark. In the 25-29 age category, the native of Alta Gracia achieved the highest honor in an outstanding international competition. "I can't believe it, I'm world champion," the cyclist said with emotion when speaking to Cadena 3.

In the first heat, Espejo finished in first place; in the second, in second; and in the third, he secured third place. In the final, his performance was impeccable, finishing first in the semifinal and taking gold in the decisive race. "I'm very happy for all the people who supported me at this moment," the champion commented.

The support of his family and friends was key to the achievement. The cyclist was accompanied by his sister and his coach in Denmark, who motivated him to stay focused despite the nerves. Espejo recalled his excitement as he crossed the finish line: "When I crossed the finish, I said 'let's go, la con* de la lora,'" adding an expressive "Vamos culia" characteristic of his homeland.

With his victory, Mateo feels more motivated than ever to keep advancing in his career. He plans to prepare for the 2026 BMX World Championship in Australia, where he hopes to continue achieving success. "I'm going to continue with everyone who was here today and I'm going to prepare for what's next," the champion assured.

The 2025 BMX World Championship took place from July 28 to August 3 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The event was divided into two parts: from July 28 to 31, the Challenge and Masters categories; and from August 2 to 3, the elite and under-23 races.
