Sunflower is advancing in Córdoba with a new growth projection driven by improved agronomic conditions and industrial demand. INTA Marcos Juárez technicians have expanded the trial network to analyze the performance of hybrids in different environments across the province. This work aims to generate local information that helps producers and advisors choose more productive and resilient varieties.
The provincial network currently has eleven evaluation sites distributed across different areas, and 80% has already been sown for the 2025/26 season. The studies measure yield, oil quality, and material health, allowing comparisons between regions with different conditions. INTA emphasizes that the goal is to strengthen knowledge about the crop, which is gaining ground in diversified agricultural systems.
The increase in acreage also responds to a favorable context of international prices and sunflower's adaptation to different soils in Córdoba. According to estimates, the province will reach about 254,500 hectares (628,999 acres) sown, representing a 20% increase compared to the previous cycle. Nationally, an expansion to 2.7 million hectares (6,672,410 acres) is expected, driven by improved margins compared to other crops.

Trials and INTA's contributions to local development
The trial network was designed to identify which hybrids perform best in each environment, a key piece of information for planting decisions. This season, studies on the health profile of the materials were incorporated, in response to the emergence of diseases affecting yield. The information obtained will be shared with producers, technicians, and seed companies through outreach events.
The initiative's coordinator, Federico Bolatti, highlighted that "sunflower has been gaining acreage throughout Argentina and also in Córdoba". He explained that coordination among INTA agencies allows for regional data comparison and improved management recommendations. He said the trials are an essential tool for validating technologies and guiding investments in areas with variable conditions.
The public agency is also working on partnerships with the private sector to promote applied research and efficient resource use. Integration among institutions, companies, and producers is seen as a pillar for sustaining crop growth. This cooperation ensures more reliable results and strengthens the competitiveness of Córdoba sunflower in the national and international markets.
