Córdoba: McCartney, Cosquín Rock, and TC caused more than $170 billion.

The figures were released at the first Forum of Leaders in the Congress and Entertainment Industry

During the  first Forum of Leaders in the Congress and Entertainment Industry, it was announced that 11 events in Córdoba caused an economic movement exceeding 170 billion pesos (374.786 billion pounds).

"Córdoba has positioned itself in Argentina as a place that supports cultural and sports events, that dares to build infrastructure for tourism, and this fills us with opportunities," stated Governor Martín Llaryora.

The analysis of the impact includes tourism, transportation, hospitality, and gastronomy activities, among others.

The Forum, which took place at the Superior Council of the National University of Córdoba, was organized by the Congress and Entertainment Cluster.

During the meeting, it was reported that between October 2024 and May 2025, Córdoba hosted 11 events.

Paul McCartney's concert (Kempes Stadium, October 23, 2024), the  International Oncology Congress of the Interior (Quinto Centenario Hotel, November 7 and 8, 2024), Boca-Vélez match (Kempes Stadium, November 27, 2024), María Becerra's concert (Kempes Stadium, December 7, 2024), Gimnasia de Mendoza vs. San Martín de San Juan match (Belgrano Stadium, December 8, 2024).

Additionally, Bum Bum Festival 2025 (Kempes Stadium, January 11, 2025),  Jesús María Festival (José Hernández Amphitheater, January 10 to 19, 2025),  Cosquín National Folklore Festival (Próspero Molina Square, January 25 to February 2, 2025), Cosquín Rock (Santa María de Punilla Airfield, February 15 and 16, 2025), first round of the Motocross World Championship (Infinito Race Track, March 1 and 2, 2025),  6th round of Turismo Carretera (Oscar Cabalén Racetrack, May 30 and June 1, 2025).

What the report says about the economic impact of artistic and sports events in Córdoba

According to the report prepared by the Institute of Political Economy of Universidad Siglo 21, attendees at these events caused 170.94 billion pesos (376.97 billion pounds), with an impact in the province of Córdoba of 129.895 billion pesos (286.56 billion pounds), that is, 75.99% of the total.

It is important to clarify that not all the spending made by attendees impacts the provincial territory, since part of the taxes caused in the province of Córdoba as a result of spending made in the provincial territory by event attendees ends up in national coffers and, even, in those of other provincial jurisdictions.

The Governor highlighted the public-private partnership and the support of the academic sector, in order to develop this state policy that supports the tourism and events industry, known as the orange industry.

"We are recognizing this industry, which was not recognized, supported, or made visible. Know that it has the support of the Province, being an industry that benefits multiple sectors," said the governor, who urged the consolidation and development of this space.

Córdoba, epicenter of events

The leader also defended the need to build infrastructure that allows the development of tourism, and highlighted the new Calamuchita and Punilla highways.

"Córdoba has positioned itself in Argentina as a place that supports cultural and sports events, that dares to build infrastructure for tourism, and this fills us with opportunities," assured Llaryora.

He also added that "in Córdoba we are willing to provide infrastructure conditions, and we are going to have more infrastructure to support this sector. That must result in more jobs and more income."

The meeting was attended by the president of said cluster, producer José Palazzo; the rector of UNC, John Boretto;  the presidents of Córdoba Cultura and Córdoba Turismo Agencies, Raúl Sansica and Darío Capitani; legislators, mayors, among others.

José Palazzo and the need for a law for events

Palazzo urged to "create a pioneering law in the Argentine Republic between public and private sectors that allows us to set the rules for our activity. People should know that we are one of the largest industries Córdoba has."

Meanwhile, Raúl Sansica highlighted the importance of "this cluster, which has the objective of achieving a model law at the national level. Because beyond the impact that has been diagnosed, the number of events we have, which almost exceeds 500 throughout the province, that results in practically more than 40,000 artists working throughout the year, plus the entire technical sector."

Darío Capitani, meanwhile, valued that "we have the strength and the determination to continue supporting this type of meetings, this type of roundtables, which undoubtedly strengthen Córdoba's economy."
