The Córdoba judiciary has charged Hugo Maximiliano Ponce Gómez, general secretary of SMATA, with the crime of simple sexual abuse. The accusation was filed by prosecutor Ingrid Vago, who considered that there is sufficient evidence to suspect his involvement. The incident allegedly occurred in May 2024 at the automotive union headquarters located on 27 de Abril Street.
The victim, an employee of the union, reported the attack and is currently on medical leave for psychiatric reasons. According to the investigation, the episode allegedly took place inside one of the offices in the union building. The prosecution proceeded with the charges after gathering testimonies and evidence supporting the complainant's account.
Ponce Gómez, 46 years old, also an employee of Fiat, was charged as the perpetrator of the crime provided for in articles 45 and 119 of the Penal Code. The indictment marks a new scandal in the Córdoba union sector, where there have already been previous complaints against the leader.

Freedom with restrictions and judicial oversight
Prosecutor Vago imposed four conditions for the accused to maintain his freedom during the investigation. Ponce must establish a residence, attend judicial summons, and refrain from any act that could hinder the case. In addition, he is prohibited from having contact with the victim or her family circle.
Judicial sources specified that, in case of non-compliance, the leader's freedom will be immediately revoked. Oversight of these measures was placed under the supervision of the prosecution and the intervening court. These provisions aim to prevent pressure or interference in the criminal process.
