The footballer reached an agreement over an image rights debt and will receive a fortune from Timao, which will use part of the Copa do Brasil prize as payment
The end of 2025 left Corinthians with a title and unfinished business. After an inconsistent year in the Brasileirao, Timao won the Copa do Brasil by defeating Vasco da Gama in the final, secured its place in the next Copa Libertadores, and received a significant financial prize. However, part of that income will not go toward strengthening the squad, but toward resolving an old legal dispute: the club agreed to pay 7.5 million dollars to Matías Rojas to avoid a FIFA sanction.
According to Globo Esporte, the São Paulo club reached an agreement with the footballer to settle the dispute and avoid a FIFA sanction that could have resulted in a transfer ban on signing reinforcements. The total amount comes to 41.2 million reais, which will be paid in two installments, one this week and the other in the coming days.
Corinthians deberá pagarle 7.5 millones de dólares a Matías Rojas
The dispute between Rojas and Timao dates back to February of last year, when the midfielder unilaterally terminated his contract, which was valid until 2027. The decision was due to repeated delays in the payment of image rights, which were part of his salary. After he formally notified the club and did not receive any response, the case reached FIFA, which ruled in favor of the player.
In the final negotiation, Rojas agreed that the São Paulo club would not pay the accrued interest, although the principal amount remained unchanged.
Rojas's journey in recent years and his possible new destination
Rojas had joined the Brazilian side in mid-2023, coming from Racing with his transfer rights in his possession. His spell was brief and without goals, but it was enough for him to then move to Inter Miami. After his experience in MLS, at the beginning of this year he joined River, where he had a promising debut with a goal against Platense in the Torneo Apertura.
However, injuries and lack of continuity under Marcelo Gallardo's management pushed him aside, and in August the club informed him that he would not be considered.

That scenario led him back to MLS, this time to the Portland Timbers, although his stay was again short and he ended up becoming a free agent. In recent weeks, it emerged that he was offered to Rosario Central for 2026, although those close to him suggest that he has no intention of returning to South American football and prioritizes options abroad.
