Angel crime: preventive detention for the mother and her partner, charged with homicide

The measure was taken because of the risk of flight and after evidence that points to repeated violence.

This Tuesday, the Justice of Comodoro Rivadavia ordered six months of preventive detention for Ángel's mother, the four-year-old boy who died under circumstances under investigation, and for his partner, both accused of their alleged responsibility in the act.

The decision was taken by Judge Alejandro Solís during the detention control hearing, in which the elements collected so far were evaluated. The magistrate based the measure on the risk of flight and the possibility of hindering the investigation, in addition to considering that there are strong signs of

According to the case, the child's mother, Mariela Altamirano, was charged with homicide aggravated by the bond and by omission, while her partner, Maicol González, is facing charges of simple homicide.

One of the central points that motivated the judicial decision was the preliminary result of the autopsy. The technical report determined that the boy had multiple traumatic head injuries and signs compatible with repeated assaults. In total, more than 20 blows had been detected, leading the experts to rule out any hypothesis of a domestic accident or natural cause

The judge concluded that with the level of evidence available in this instance, it can be stated that the injuries were not the result of an accidental situation and that the minor was under the care of the defendants at the time of the events.

At least four witnesses reported previous episodes of physical violence and claimed to have heard screams from the boy the day the incident occurred. Added to this is the complaint in the complaint, which maintains that the defendants tried to eliminate evidence to hinder the progress of the case

The prosecutor in charge, Facundo Oribones, confirmed that the objective of the Public Ministry is to move forward with the investigation during the six-month period established by preventive detention, in order to fully clarify what happened and determine criminal liability.

As the investigation progressed, the evidence began to contradict the initial version of adults, who argued that the child's decompensation was a sudden episode. The forensic data and the testimonies incorporated into the file ended up constituting a

much more serious picture.

With pre-trial detention already handed down, the file enters a key stage. Over the next few months, Justice must gather the necessary evidence to bring the case to trial in a process that promises to explain in detail one of the most shocking events of recent times
