Former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner remains hospitalized at Sanatorio Otamendi in the City of Buenos Aires, where she is under strict medical observation after presenting a mild intestinal complication following the surgery she underwent a few days ago.
According to the new medical report released this Wednesday, December 24, the former head of state is experiencing a case of postoperative ileus, a temporary paralysis of the bowels that usually appears after abdominal procedures. The health center clarified that this is a common complication and that the patient's overall progress remains within the parameters expected for the original diagnosis.

Kirchner underwent surgery for acute appendicitis with localized peritonitis, which is why she continues to receive intravenous antibiotic treatment and still has a peritoneal drain. According to the medical report, so far she has not presented fever or signs of secondary infection, data considered positive by the treating team.
The official report, signed by the medical director of the clinic, specified that a computed tomography scan of the abdomen was performed, which confirmed the diagnosis of postoperative ileus. Based on that result, the corresponding supportive measures were implemented, such as bowel rest and continuous clinical monitoring, while awaiting a spontaneous resolution of the condition.
Specialists agree that this type of complication usually solves with conservative treatment and strict monitoring, without the need for new surgical procedures. However, the decision to maintain hospitalization responds to the need for constant surveillance, especially considering the history of peritonitis that led to the initial surgery.
The former vice president, 72 years old, had been transferred to Sanatorio Otamendi last Saturday after experiencing severe abdominal pain at her home in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Constitución, where she is serving house arrest. After the initial tests, the doctors ordered emergency surgery, which was carried out with the corresponding judicial authorization and without intraoperative complications.

From the beginning of the hospitalization, the clinical progress has been marked by continuous monitoring, administration of antibiotics, and follow-up of fluid balance. In recent hours, the professionals have ruled out the appearance of new symptoms and confirmed that the patient remains without fever, a favorable indicator within the recovery process.
For the moment, the clinic has not set an estimated date for medical discharge. The continuation of the hospitalization will depend on the daily progress of the postoperative ileus and the complete resolution of the abdominal infectious condition. Meanwhile, restrictions on visits and controlled access to the hospitalization area remain in place, in accordance with the provisions of the justice system.
