A delirious Democratic senator spent more than 24 hours criticizing Trump

Democratic Senator Cory Booker spent around 25 hours opposing President Trump's policies and broke a record in the Senate

New Jersey Democratic Senator, Cory Booker, delivered a marathon speech in the United States Senate, lasting more than 25 hours, which many have interpreted as an attempt at self-promotion, similar to the famous "Spartacus moment" Booker attempted during the nomination hearings of Judge Brett Kavanaugh in 2018.

In this case, Booker was not opposing a specific bill, but used his time in the Senate to protest against various policies of the Trump administration, such as tax reform, cost reductions in the Department of Government (DOGE), and trade tariffs.

The speech began at 7 p.m. on Monday and concluded more than 25 hours later, when Booker proclaimed: “This is a moral moment. It's not about left or right, but about what's right or wrong. We're going to get into good trouble,” in a clear reference to the legacy of Democratic Congressman John Lewis, known for his activism.

The Senate applauded timidly at the end of his intervention, a recognition of the effort and longevity of his speech, which surpassed the record of 24 hours and 18 minutes set by Strom Thurmond in 1957, who opposed the Civil Rights Act.

Booker not only criticized President Trump's policies, but also expressed his concern about cuts to social security and benefits affecting the most vulnerable citizens.

In his speech, he compared the spending cut plan proposed by Trump and Elon Musk to the privatization of social security, asserting that it was not their responsibility to take those rights away from people.

Booker also read letters from his constituents, and quoted poetry from NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson, to emphasize his fight for "civil rights."

The senator also criticized Trump's policies toward "woke" universities, such as Columbia, to which the president had correctly frozen millions of dollars in federal contracts.

Booker argued that the remedy for the excesses of leftist ideology was not to suppress universities, but to create a more competitive and fair marketplace of ideas. In that context, his intervention reflected the growing polarization around social issues and the budget cuts proposed by the Trump administration.

In addition to his pathetic performance in the Senate, Booker's act was seen by many as a mere political "stunt", an attempt to attract attention at a time when the Democratic Party faced significant challenges following the November electoral defeats.

Although the speech may have resonated with the progressive sector of the party, it failed to attract undecided voters or change the public perception of Democratic politics.

This type of grandiose resistance symbolizes, for some critics, the Democrats' disconnection with the majority of voters. While Booker was giving his speech, other politicians, like New York Comptroller, Brad Lander, were announcing lawsuits against Elon Musk, accusing him of fraud for leaving Tesla to lead the DOGE.

Lander, in an attempt to strengthen his candidacy for New York City mayor, joined the criticism of Musk for his austerity policies and cuts. However, such lawsuits have not been very successful in changing the situation, as demonstrated in the past, and only seem to add political noise.

Meanwhile, figures like Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Communist Senator Bernie Sanders embarked on a tour in which they attacked the power of billionaires in the Democratic Party.

While these figures can draw crowds, their speeches fail to connect with the majority of American voters, who do not feel represented by what they consider an agenda too focused on leftist issues that do not affect the daily concerns of the majority.

The Democratic Party continues to lose support and has reached an approval rating of only 20%.

This situation is, in part, the result of focusing on divisive issues such as transgender rights in women's sports, a topic that, according to critics, only resonates with a small fraction of the electorate, but not with the majority of moderate or conservative voters.

The internal struggles of the party and the disconnection with the concerns of the majority of Americans are becoming increasingly evident.
