New records from the Federal Election Commission reveal that Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer received at least USD 22,000 in donations from Jeffrey Epstein during the 1990s, even though today he presents himself as one of the most staunch critics of the late financier accused of child sex trafficking.
Between 1992 and 1997, Epstein made seven contributions of USD 1,000 directly to Schumer's campaigns, first as a congressman and later as a candidate for the Senate from New York. In addition to those contributions, USD 10,000 was directed to Victory in New York, a joint committee associated with Schumer and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), as well as USD 5,000 to Win New York, another committee linked to the legislator.
According to the regulations in force during that period, Epstein had already reached the legal limit for direct donations to the candidate, so these committees channeled additional funds mainly to the DSCC and the Liberal Party of New York.

Following the disclosure of this information, a Schumer spokesperson stated that the committees in question closed two decades ago and assured that the senator will donate an equivalent sum to organizations dedicated to combating sex trafficking and violence against women.
Schumer had already taken similar steps with donations received from Harvey Weinstein. Nevertheless, the revelation has reignited criticism regarding the senator's moral consistency, given that he now demands strong accountability for the handling of the Epstein case.
