The President of the United States requested explanations from the Ukrainian authorities regarding how they would use the weapons received

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated on Monday that he still hasn't made a final decision regarding the delivery of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine and made any possible delivery conditional on first learning how the Ukrainian government plans to use them.

"I don't want to escalate that war," Trump said to journalists at the White House, emphasizing his concern about the possible geopolitical repercussions of supplying advanced weaponry to Kyiv.

The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, has requested that the United States allow the sale of Tomahawk missiles to allied European countries, which would then transfer them to Ukraine. With a range of 2,500 km (1,553 miles), these missiles would put Moscow within the reach of Ukraine's arsenal, should their delivery be authorized.

The response from Russia was swift. President Vladimir Putin warned that supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would completely destroy diplomatic relations between Moscow and Washington. "It would be a red line," the Russian leader said in a recording released on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin welcomed with optimism Trump's comments about his willingness to extend the last remaining nuclear arms control treaty between both countries. The U.S. President described Moscow's proposal to extend the New START Treaty for one year as "a good idea," raising expectations about the possible reactivation of the pact that expires in February.

Meanwhile, in Denmark, the government announced a reinforcement of environmental controls on oil tankers crossing the Skagen Strait, a key passage between the Baltic Sea and the North Sea.

The measure aims to combat the so-called "Russian shadow fleet," made up of aging ships used by Moscow to evade Western sanctions on its fossil fuel exports. The initiative comes after a series of drone sightings in the area linked to one of these vessels, which even led to the temporary closure of Danish airports.

How the war in Ukraine continues

On the military front, Ukraine launched one of its largest nighttime attacks since the beginning of the war, employing more than 250 drones, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. One of the targets was the Sverdlov munitions plant in the Nizhny Novgorod region, an important supplier of aerial weaponry and artillery for Russian forces. A petroleum terminal in Crimea and an ammunition depot of the 18th Russian Army were also hit.

In response, Russia accused Ukraine of an attack that left two dead in the border city of Belgorod. Meanwhile, President Zelensky reiterated that Ukrainian offensives on Russian territory are a legitimate response to the daily bombings affecting Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure.

In eastern Ukraine, the intense fight for control of the city of Pokrovsk continues. According to the commander of a Ukrainian drone unit, Russian sabotage groups are operating inside the city, while fighting is taking place both on the ground and in the air. Pokrovsk is a key strategic point for Kyiv's defenses in that region.
