Doom: The Dark Ages launches Ripatorium mode with its Update 2

Update 2 brings one of the most significant changes to the title

The second major update for Doom: The Dark Ages is now available and arrives with significant new features that impact both the campaign and multiplayer. Update 2 introduces the highly anticipated Ripatorium mode, improvements in weapon and enemy balance, and a series of technical adjustments that optimize game stability.

This patch responds to requests from the community, which had been asking for fairer balance and customizable game modes to increase replayability.

The main addition in Update 2 is the Ripatorium, an endless arena-style mode where the player can configure waves of demons according to their preferences. It includes three brand-new arenas:

  • City of Ry’uul
  • Village of Khalim
  • Harbor of Souls

Through an intuitive menu, players can define the type and number of enemies, time limits, endless mode, and a respawn counter for customized encounters.

Those who complete all three arenas will receive the exclusive Perfection Doom Slayer skin. Additionally, by linking a Bethesda account between August 7 and September 1, 2025, players will unlock the QuakeCon 2025 Doom Slayer for free.

Weapons and enemies: a new balance

The patch introduces a thorough adjustment to the performance of weapons such as the Super Shotgun, Rail Spike Impaler, Chainshot, Dreadmace, and Plasma Rifle.

Meanwhile, the AI of bosses like Kreed Maykr and Prince Ahzrak has been improved, increasing their aggressiveness and resilience. Classic demons such as the Cacodemon and the Mancubus now require more elaborate strategies.

Parry and block mechanics have also been refined to reduce errors and allow for faster reactions.

Technical improvements and stability

Update 2 fixes recurring issues in problematic areas such as Harbor of Souls and in transition cinematics, preventing crashes and loss of progress.

Additional save points have also been added in levels with difficult bosses, along with visual optimization and fixes to shadows, camera, and audiovisual effect synchronization.
