Doom: The Dark Ages reveals its story and release date with an epic trailer

The universe of Doom expands with a new installment that promises to take the action to another level. It is Doom: The Dark Ages, an unprecedented chapter that reimagines the franchise in a medieval setting filled with darkness, blood, and demons.

The game, developed by id Software and published by Bethesda, has its release confirmed for May 15, 2025, and will arrive on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

A medieval Doom: origin of the Slayer and ancestral struggle

In this installment, the player will be able to learn about the origins of the Slayer, the mythical protagonist of the saga. The change of setting is radical:  the classic sci-fi ambiance is replaced by a dark medieval world, full of fortresses, catapults, brutal weapons, and demonic hordes.

According to the development team:

• "This will be the deepest narrative in the history of Doom, linking the universe from Doom 64 to the 2016 reboot."
• The story mode will be the main focus of the game, as this time it will not feature a multiplayer mode, a decision that prioritizes the immersive and cinematic experience.

Exclusive accessories and premium edition

Along with the announcement of the game, Microsoft presented a collection of themed accessories inspired by the new medieval universe:

• Xbox wireless controller Doom: The Dark Ages edition
• Customized Xbox Elite Series 2 controller
• Decorative cover for the Xbox Series X

Additionally, a Premium Edition will be available offering:

• Up to 48 hours of early access
• Additional DLC
• Digital art book
• Official soundtrack
• Void Doom Slayer Skin as a pre-order bonus

Expectation among fans and trailer reception

The trailer released by Bethesda was very well received by the community, standing out for its frenetic pace, the new artistic design, and the brutality of the combat. The fusion between Doom's mythology and a medieval aesthetic caused surprise and excitement.
