DOTA breaks the strike and sets the course: 'The buses are ready to work'

Marcelo Pasciuto, director of DOTA, confirmed that the company will provide its service as usual this Tuesday, April 6

Praising the management of the Government of Javier Milei, the country's main transportation company challenges the union and guarantees service while a necessary restructuring of the system progresses. The firm business decision and state support highlight the loss of consensus of the UTA.

In a context where traditional unionism seeks to hinder the transformation that Argentina needs, the group DOTA, the main operator of urban passenger transport, made a decision that marks a turning point in the recent history of the sector:  it will not adhere to the strike called by the Unión Tranviarios Automotor (UTA) and will guarantee bus service in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA).

Marcelo Pasciuto, director of DOTA, publicly confirmed that the company will provide service this Tuesday.  "DOTA as a company doesn't strike", he stated in dialogue with the media, and added: "We would provide services, the buses are all available to work."

Although he acknowledged that "the union part of the UTA affiliates" could join the strike, he clarified that a significant segment of the staff is not affiliated, so the company expects to operate with the "maximum staff that comes to work" and under "regular schedule," without a reduction in frequencies.

In line with the new paradigm of order, security, and efficiency promoted from the Casa Rosada, DOTA also requested assistance from the national Government to ensure normal operation in the face of potential blockades or intimidating acts. "I just spoke with the Ministry of Security requesting that there be security measures to work calmly," Pasciuto stated, in a clear sign of coordination with law enforcement.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of Transportation,  Luis Pierrini, called for a dialogue table between unions and business chambers with the aim of advancing the comprehensive modernization of the system. In that line, Pasciuto warned that "a restructuring of transportation has to be done, since neither the user, nor the State, nor the employee, nor the employer are satisfied. Here we have to change and start over."
