The lesbian communist presenter announced that she had made the decision to reside permanently in the United Kingdom following Trump's reelection
Ellen DeGeneres, former television host and 67-year-old comedian, has sparked controversy after confirming that she and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, decided to leave the United States and move permanently to the United Kingdom as a direct reaction to the reelection of PresidentDonald Trump.
During a conversation with British host Richard Bacon in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, DeGeneres explained that her decision was motivated by political discontent, which has been interpreted by many as an elitist attitude disconnected from the reality of millions of Americans.
DeGeneres, who retired from the television world amid scandals over workplace mistreatment on her show, stated that she and her wife arrived in the United Kingdom the day before the election. "We woke up to messages full of crying emojis and I said, 'Trump won.' So we decided to stay," she recounted with disdain.

Far from accepting the democratic result of a legitimate election, the couple chose to "exile" themselves voluntarily in the English countryside, an area known for housing Hollywood millionaires.
After settling in the Cotswolds, one of the most exclusive regions in the United Kingdom, they purchased an estate valued at 18 million dollars, even paying 3 million above the initial price.
Their new "simple" life includes great luxuries, which strongly contrasts with the image of a supposedly persecuted or marginalized couple. "Everything here is better," DeGeneres said, comparing her English surroundings with what she perceives as a "decadent United States." Her comments caused strong backlash among American society, who interpreted the remarks as a strong contempt for the country.
Additionally, DeGeneres expressed "concern" about LGBT rights in the United States, stating that the Baptist Church seeks to overturn same-sex marriage.

In response, she announced that they are already considering getting married again on British soil, despite there being no current policy that annuls existing marriages. Her statements were criticized by conservative and constitutionalist sectors, who point out that these kinds of claims are alarmist and exaggerated, used to justify her escape in the face of the victory of a candidate with policies different from hers.
President Trump, whose victory was historic, has focused his efforts on defending national interests, border security, the economy, and individual freedom.
His support among voters grew precisely because he rejected the celebrity culture that, like DeGeneres, seems disconnected from the real problems of ordinary citizens. Meanwhile, while millions of Americans face economic challenges inherited from the Biden administration or seek to prosper in their country, the multimillionaire comedian chose to move to a mansion abroad because she doesn't like the election results.
Despite her attempts to adopt a simpler lifestyle, her time in England hasn't been free of problems. Recently, they clashed with British neighbors over a renovation on their property, which shows that not even in their "ideal refuge" are they free from conflicts. Additionally, DeGeneres confessed that she feels bored, hinting that she might return to entertainment, although without concrete plans.
