Elon Musk announced that DOGE will investigate the corrupt Democratic lawmakers.
The head of the Government Efficiency Department stated that the agency's next goal will be to find out how some Democrats amass their fortunes
The billionaire Elon Musk, known for his direct approach, expressed his concern about the wealth of certain members of the United States Congress, who, despite having relatively modest public salaries, seem to have accumulated great fortunes.
In a meeting in a Wisconsin town on Sunday, Musk commented that his team at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will investigate how some legislators have managed to amass "generational wealth" during their careers.
The statement came after an attendee asked Musk if DOGE had found evidence of funds sent from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to various members of Congress, including Representative Maxine Waters (Democrat-Calif.), Senator Adam Schiff (Democrat-Calif.), and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (Democrat-NY).

Musk replied that there was an indirect process where funds intended for international NGOs through USAID eventually return to the United States, and that some of those funds could end up in the pockets of the mentioned politicians.
"What happens is that the money is sent abroad to an NGO, then it goes through several organizations and, therefore, I have great confidence that a portion of that money returns to the U.S. and ends up in the pockets of the people you just mentioned," Musk stated.
"It's an indirect route, it doesn't go directly, but let's say there are many members of Congress with strange wealth, and I'm trying to connect the dots: how do they get rich?"
Although the salary of members of Congress is USD 174,000 annually, Musk raised the question of how some legislators, despite their public salaries, end up with multimillion-dollar fortunes.

A great example of wealthy legislators is the former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), whose net worth is estimated at 250 million dollars.
The wealth of Pelosicomes mainly from the investments she and her husband, venture capitalist Paul Pelosi, have made in large companies like Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Netflix.
Musk was surprised by the large sums of money some congressmen have accumulated, saying: "How do they get $20 million if they earn $200,000 a year?" He stated that his team will investigate how this happens and committed to stopping it if any irregularity is identified.

Besides his comments on national politics, Musk was in Wisconsin to support the candidacy of Brad Schimel, a conservative judge from Waukesha County, in the tight election for the state's Supreme Court.
During his visit, Musk handed out $1 million checks to two Wisconsin voters as part of a campaign to draw attention to his fight against "activist judges". He explained that the checks were intended to generate interest, and that this usually provoked a reaction from traditional media.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court election is seen as crucial due to its influence over important issues like abortion laws and district redistricting.
Control of the state Supreme Court is considered strategic, as it could influence ongoing political conflicts between Democratic Governor Tony Evers and the Republican-controlled state legislature.
