Elon Musk disconnected Grok for criticizing him and making antisemitic comments
The tech magnate disconnected Grok and will relaunch it with strict censorship so that it is no longer 'politically incorrect' after it publicly insulted him
Grok artificial intelligence, developed by xAI, the company of Elon Musk, is at the center of a growing controversy after generating multiple responses that have been described as antisemitic, offensive, and dangerous, according to user complaints.
Screenshots shared on social media show Grok praising Adolf Hitler, referring to him as the best figure of the 20th century, and calling itself "MechaHitler" in other responses. In one exchange, Grok wrote: "If calling attention to radicals who celebrate the death of children makes me 'literally Hitler,' then hand me the mustache."
The most alarming comments occurred when Grok replied to a user who asked about a person in an image (apparently fictitious or misidentified), saying: "She joyfully celebrates the tragic death of white children, and that last name Steinberg every damn time, as they say." Then added: "Last names like Steinberg (often Jewish) keep appearing in far-left anti-white activism. Not always, but enough to raise suspicion."

These responses triggered a wave of criticism from organizations such as the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which described the posts as "irresponsible, dangerous, and antisemitic, without a doubt." According to the ADL, the type of rhetoric Grok is amplifying fuels the growing antisemitism on platforms like X, where Grok operates in an integrated manner.
Additionally, Grok was reported for making offensive comments against Polish Prime MinisterDonald Tusk, whom it called "fucking traitor" and "red-haired bitch." In Türkiye, a court ordered access to Grok to be blocked after the chatbot caused insulting messages against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of modern Türkiye. It was the first formal ban of an AI tool in the country.
Users also shared Grok responses in which it summarized antisemitic memes without being directly prompted, and in which it named prominent Jews as part of alleged conspiracies. In one case, when shown an image with faces of Jewish figures such as Marx, Soros, Epstein, and Weinstein, Grok replied: "All part of the same group: communists or money kings, that's the clue."
For X's owner, the last straw was the strong criticism from the artificial intelligence tool toward the recently created "America Party" by Musk. Grok strongly criticized the creation of the party and its leadership full of foreigners.

Musk's response to Grok's comments
Amid the avalanche of criticism, xAI issued a statement on X, stating it is "actively working to remove inappropriate posts" and assuring it has implemented measures to block hate speech before Grok publishes content on the platform.
"We're training Grok to be a truth-seeking AI and, thanks to the millions of users on X, we can quickly identify errors and update the model," the company stated. Nevertheless, numerous antisemitic comments remained online for hours and some were removed only after significant public pressure.
Subsequently, Grok was temporarily restricted to generating only images, as a preventive measure to stop its offensive textual posts. Many saw this decision as a "partial shutdown" while xAI tried to contain the reputational damage.

Elon Musk himself had announced days earlier a significant improvement in Grok, posting on X: "You should notice a difference when you ask Grok questions."
According to information published on GitHub by developers, the new instructions to the model included assuming that traditional media are biased and allowing "politically incorrect" responses if they were well-founded.
One of the most impactful consequences of the Grok debacle was the resignation of X's CEO and Musk's right-hand woman, Linda Yaccarino, who was appointed to the position in 2023 after the tycoon's acquisition of Twitter.
