End of the conflict? Córdoba Municipality and SUOEM reached a salary agreement

The deal was finalized until January 2026. The agreement provides for a staggered 13.5% increase

The Municipality of Córdoba and Suoem signed a salary agreement valid until January 2026. The pact was signed this Friday at the provincial Labor Secretariat.  The increase will be 13.5% in stages and will begin to be applied with the July salary.

The agreement was reached  after two months of negotiations marked by tensions and industrial action. During that period, the union halted services and held protests at various locations. The marches affected urban mobility and complicated essential procedures for residents.

The improvised management of Kirchnerist Passerini went through the conflict without a clear plan to mitigate the effects. The lack of foresight in the face of protests exposed organizational failures. Businesses, schools, and medical centers suffered the interruption of normal operations.

A restrictive economic context

According to Secretary Sergio Lorenzatti, the agreement doesn't compromise the municipality's finances. He stated that "the greatest effort" was made to avoid a fiscal overflow. He also emphasized that balance is prioritized in the face of growing demand for services.

From the ruling party, officials pointed out—questionably—that the accounts are in order despite the recessionary context. In Córdoba, the decline in economic activity, due to the high municipal tax burden, impacts both revenue and social demands.

The mandatory conciliation, extended on July 15, contained tensions for only a few days. Suoem halted the protests, but negotiations remained stalled. Finally, both parties gave in to avoid a new open conflict.

A solution that comes too late for residents

The conflict with municipal workers revealed management weaknesses in the middle of the winter season. The protests affected tourism sectors and procedures at CPC. There were also delays in health services, waste collection, and traffic controls.

Although the agreement puts an end to the dispute, it doesn't make up for the damage caused. Córdoba experienced weeks of chaos due to a lack of political order and planning. Complaints from residents and business owners were heard, although without concrete responses.

In neighborhoods such as Alta Córdoba, Centro, and Nueva Córdoba, street blockades were constant. The absence of preventive operations worsened the disruptions. Passerini's administration was exposed for not anticipating the impact of the union crisis.
