José Luis Espert announced his resignation from the candidacy for national deputy for the province of Buenos Aires, in a message published on the social network X under the title "FOR ARGENTINA, I STEP ASIDE." According to his explanation, he communicated his decision to President Javier Milei, who "decided to accept it."
In his message, Espert stated that the country is going through a decisive moment and that his departure seeks not to interfere with the direction of the libertarian government. "In these elections, Argentina once again has the opportunity to turn the page on its sad history," he said, and emphasized that since Milei's inauguration, "he has been carrying out that change with the effort and support of the majority of Argentinians."
The former candidate denounced that his departure is part of a political and media maneuver by kirchnerismo against him. "This is an operation clearly orchestrated by a system that destroyed Argentina for decades and sustained by a ruthless media trial against me, to which I will no longer lend myself," he stated.
In that regard, he stressed that he will not take refuge in political privileges: "Unlike those who, in every electoral campaign, use the same weapons, I have nothing to hide and I will prove my innocence before the courts, without immunity or privileges."

Espert also insisted that the accusations that motivated his resignation are part of an attempt to destabilize the electoral process and discredit the libertarian project. "Time will show that all this was a big lie to tarnish this electoral process and thus avoid discussing what we Argentinians have to do to change the course of our country," he said.
In another part of his message, he reaffirmed his support for the project led by Milei: "I wish that Argentinians live as we deserve. That's why I can't allow the country project that we started with so much effort to collapse." He also sent a direct message to the activists and leaders of La Libertad Avanza: "Do not let yourselves be manipulated. The necessary explanations will be given at the appropriate time and in the proper place."
President Javier Milei also referred to the issue and supported Espert. In a message published on his account, the president warned that "the process of deep change that we are carrying out is the only thing that matters" and assured that he will not allow "a malicious operation to put it at risk."
Milei emphasized that the objective of his political space transcends individuals: "Argentina is always above individuals. Guaranteeing change is more important than any of us." He concluded with a forceful phrase: "Even if they want to tarnish us, we are not the same. La Libertad Avanza or Argentina goes backward."
With Espert's resignation, the list of deputies for La Libertad Avanza in the Province of Buenos Aires will be headed by Diego Santilli.
