FIFA clarified the number of official titles for River and Boca

The entity presided over by Gianni Infantino showcased the achievements of both clubs and made it clear who won more

Boca and River will be the representatives of Argentine soccer in the 2025 Club World Cup, a tournament with a new format that will debut this year in the United States. As part of the presentation, the international organization dedicated a detailed publication to each team on its official channels, mentioning, among other aspects, their history of titles at the local level.

With this publication, the highest entity in soccer practically put an end to the discussion that has gained relevance in recent years in the local sphere about the validity and criteria used to count the titles obtained both in the amateur and professional eras.

In the post directed at the Xeneize, FIFA recognizes their 35 First Division titles throughout history, the first of which was the 1920 season championship. Additionally, the organization highlights their 6 Copa Libertadores wins, as well as their 3 Copa Argentina and 2 Copa Sudamericana titles.

Furthermore, FIFA highlights an impressive record of the club from La Ribera in the international arena: "Boca is one of the five teams that won the Intercontinental Cup three times". An achievement that leaves an indelible mark.

Regarding the Millonario, the organization recognizes a total of 38 local championships, of which 37 belong to the professional era and one (1920) corresponds to the amateur period of Argentine soccer.

The message from the governing body was clear: "River is the most successful club in Argentina, with 38 First Division titles". This figure is complemented by four Copa Libertadores trophies (the last of which was obtained in 2018 against Boca) and three Copa Argentina titles.

The curious location of River

One of the most striking details in FIFA's publications about Boca and River has to do with the location of the Millonario: "Founded in 1901, River is based in Belgrano, Buenos Aires, Argentina".

The peculiarity of this statement is that, although the club's own fans identify with the neighborhood of Núñez, from a purely geographical perspective, the map suggests that FIFA is not entirely wrong, since, technically, the Monumental stadium is on the border between Belgrano and Núñez.
