The International Monetary Fund (IMF) projected that Argentina will lead economic growth among the major economies in the Americas in the coming years, thanks to the reforms implemented by the Government of Javier Milei.

According to the new estimates from the organization, the country would register a 3.5% expansion in 2026 and 4% in 2027, placing it above nations such as Brazil, Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

If these forecasts materialize, the Argentine economy would accumulate three consecutive years of growth, a dynamic that is quite unusual in recent decades.

In parallel, the IMF anticipates a downward trajectory of inflation that would allow reaching single-digit levels by 2028, consolidating a scenario of greater macroeconomic stability.

The update of the outlook occurs in an international context marked by a deceleration of global growth, characterized by geopolitical tensions, reduced trade dynamism, and rising energy costs.

Despite this scenario, the expected performance for Argentina stands out within the region, surpassing the projected average for Latin America.

According to the report, the country would not only lead growth among the most significant economies on the continent but would also position itself as one of the main engines of regional expansion over the next two years.

The causes of Argentina's growth

The IMF attributes this improvement to the continuity of the macroeconomic stabilization process achieved by the current administration. In particular, it highlights the advances in fiscal matters, the deceleration of inflation, and the recovery of economic activity following the severe economic crisis inherited from Kirchnerism.

This projected scenario is supported by reforms and the consolidation of an economic program aimed at balancing public accounts, reducing monetary imbalances, and creating more favorable conditions for investment.

Within this framework, the international organization considers that the Argentine economy could sustain a growth path with greater predictability.

The organization's projections thus reinforce the expectation that Argentina will undergo a cycle of sustained expansion, with improvements in key macroeconomic indicators and a consolidation of the stability achieved by Milei's Government.
