Former Colombian chancellor revealed that Gustavo Petro has a serious drug addiction.
He also claimed that Petro had disappeared for two days in Paris in 2023 to 'look for' drugs
The former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Álvaro Leyva, published an open letter revealing a concerning situation regarding the communist president Gustavo Petro, after the former official publicly stated that the president has a serious drug dependency.
In this context, Leyva mentioned the controversial incident that occurred in June 2023, when Petro traveled with his team and a group of journalists to the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact. However, before concluding the visit, the Presidency modified the official decree, extending the president's agenda by almost two more days.
In his letter, Álvaro Leyva stated that he was a direct witness to the situation and had to deal with the media pressure after the disappearance of the president, after he justified the extension of the trip by alleging a supposed meeting with an aeronautical company that never occurred. Later, it was revealed that the president's private agenda had been the real reason.

Almost two years after the incident, Leyva maintained that Petro was absent from the diplomatic mission due to his serious drug addiction, which would have led him to "seek them" in Paris.
"The memories I still have fresh of episodes that occurred with me as the first witness still cause me dismay and bewilderment. One of them, the occasion when you disappeared for two days in Paris during an official visit. As if French intelligence were incompetent enough not to have known your whereabouts," wrote the former minister.
He also explained that he had to handle the delicate situation with the French authorities and the national media to prevent the questions from spreading. He even insinuated that Petro might have been in a place of dubious reputation during his absence in the French capital.
"Embarrassing moments for me as a person and as your Chancellor. And much more when I found out where you had been. I am sorry to say it today -certainly late-, but at that time I was already aware of your episodes of similar behavior. It was in Paris where I could confirm that you had a drug addiction problem. But what could I do? Surely I was inadequate," Leyva concluded.

Álvaro Leyva also suggested that the frequent disappearances of the president, as well as his constant delays in public events and official visits, could be linked to his addiction.
"Your disappearances, late arrivals, unacceptable failures to comply, senseless trips, incoherent phrases, questioned companies according to some, and other oversights of yours have been recorded and continue to be recorded, Mr. President. It is well known that you have fallen into very frequent times of loneliness, anxiety, depression, and other manifestations of difficult overcoming, some of high risk," Leyva expressed.
Furthermore, the former chancellor made a self-criticism for not having intervened in time to help the president with what he described as a "serious drug problem." He also warned that this situation has not been overcome.
"I should have approached, helped, assisted you in a timely manner. I keep within me the regret of not having tried to extend a hand to you. The truth is that you never refused. It is so. Unfortunately, your recovery has not taken place," Leyva concluded.
