The competition for securing a spot at Alpine to race in Formula 1 is complicated, especially if you look at the team's poor performance so far. Although fans fueled the rivalry between the reserve drivers through social media, the truth is it became even more exposed after some statements by Paul Aron, which clearly reflect how his relationship with Franco Colapinto is: "There is no friendship".

The driver born in Estonia, who shares the reserve role in the French team with Kush Maini and Colapinto, spoke with the media ERR News and commented that there is "interaction" and "communication" among the drivers, but he emphasized that in motorsport "there are no friends". "It's clear that the main drivers know that we, as backups, want their seats. Among the reserve drivers, we all know we want to be the next in that main seat", expressed the Estonian.
Meanwhile, Aron referred to the tests conducted in Monza, in which Colapinto achieved superior times but couldn't complete the day due to an accident: "I've fulfilled my role as a reserve driver well. The team is happy with me. I've had several opportunities to demonstrate my skills and all those tests have gone well".

Their confrontation with the Argentine driver comes from Formula 2, a category in which the native of Pilar used to regularly outperform him. In the last sprint race of Imola 2024 in F2, Franco managed to snatch the victory from the Estonian in the last lap with a remarkable maneuver. Later, the Argentine spoke about the matter with the magazine Corazón de F1: "I would have been upset. Not even on Sunday could he beat me, it's always frustrating to be overtaken in the last lap".

Additionally, he concluded with these words: "Joking aside, it's somewhat understandable, but the truth is he was in a very bad mood on the podium. I don't like him much either, but at least I threw a bit of champagne at him. In the end, I think he accepted it a bit. It's true that in the press conference he was angry.
